25 April 1722—At 4 PM standing well in Shoar, discover's a Sloop under the Land which stood off to us, with a Spanish Jack & Pendant abroad, fired a Gun at her then she brought too, hail'd her, they reply'd they belongd to Porta Rico Sent our Boat on board her & found she had most of her Men hid in the Hold the whole consisting of 58 which were all brought aboard then bore away for Port Royall in Company with the aforesaid Sloop |
Came in here the Dolphin having been taken by Thos. Anstice the Pyrate in the Windward passage homeward bound from hence, PM began to take in our Guns |
At 4 PM anchor'd here the Portland of London from Madera having been taken (off of the Wt. End of Hispaniola) on a Ship of 32 Guns Dutch built & a Brigantine Rhode Island built of 22 Guna which carried them into Samana on the NE part of Hispaniola having been detained 10 Days & plunder'd of their provisions, Stores & Guns and 5 of their Men The Commander of the pyrates being Thos. Anstice, AM Carried on Shoar 3 of our Prisoners (viz) the Master, Lieut. & one of the Men to take their tryals |
Cast by Survey 600 Parchment Cartridges being rotten, At Noon anchor'd here the Portugall Galley from Guinea who brought Advice that the Maties. Shipe Swallow had taken 3 Pyrates on the Coast of Guinea one whereof was Commanded by Barto. Roberts |
At 1/2 past 11 AM Came in here the Perkin Galley from Cartazena having been taken on the 26 7ber last 80 Lea[gues] SW of Bluefields by a Pyrate Ship of 32 Guns Dutch built late commanded by Thos. Anstice who is now a private Man with them, but now commanded by one Fenn, also a Brig:n Road Island built of 24 Gun having 200 Men between them & having plunder'd her of Ammunition Provisions & Stores & forced 4 of their Ships Company then dismiss'd her about 35 Le[agues] to Leward of Jamaica. |
