Memorandum that on the 16 day of May 1718 then Personally appearing before me Will:m Mugar late Master of the Revenge Sloop belonging to this place [Jamaica], and made Oath upon the holly Evangelist, that he this deponent Sailed from this Island, on the 30th day of March past bound for the bay of Hinduras [Bay of Homduras] for Logwood where he Arrived about the 12 Aprill following, but Standing into the Customary place of Anchoring, found there riding 8 Sail of Sloops and 2 large Ships, one of which this deponent veryly beli[e]ves, was belonging to New England [Protestant Caesar] Comanded by one Weir [William Ware]; they not shewing any Collours he sent his dorey with three Men to acquaint them who he was (as is usual) which they stopt, but when he this deponant was got verry near them, the other Ship [QAR] hoisted Black Collours, and fired a Shot; he then (this deponant) stood out again for the Sea, but imediatly was followed by a Sloop of about 10 Guns [Revenge pirate] who hoisted black Collours and fired several Guns att him; She Continued to chase till Night; when he lost her, having been obliged to cutt away a large Cannon he had in Tow to sail the better, he then made the best of his way to this place [Kingston, Jamaica] where he arrived the 12 Instant, and farther this deponent Saith not Kingston May 16, 1718 William Megerre Sworn to before me Jno.
